The bill directs the executive director of the Department of Local Affairs to post on the department???s web site a standard to measure the self- sufficiency of Colorado families. This note reflects amendments calling for the standard to be posted on the state's web site.

Although the Federal Poverty Measure is the most common and widely used measure of economic distress, it is not necessarily the most realistic measurement of what a working person or family needs to earn in order to be self-sufficient, i.e., to meet their most basic needs without any public or private assistance or supports. One alternative measurement of economic well-being is the Self-Sufficiency Standard.

One of the priorities of Colorado???s state government should be moving as many families as possible to economic self-sufficiency.
