The legislature should review its staffing levels and utilization to ensure the development of permanent, professional expertise in a wider variety of issues and to ensure legislators have prompt access to the nonbiased information they need to make wise decisions.

To improve child care quality, the state should work with counties to pay market rates to child care providers and offer incentives to those who participate in quality initiatives. The legislature should pass a bill similar to HB06-1397 to expand local early childhood councils to streamline costs while increasing availability, accessibility and quality of these services.

We can give our elected officials more of the tools they need to do their jobs and hold our elected officials and state agencies more accountable in several ways.
