Bell Policy Center and ProgressNow Colorado are teaming up to shed light on the state budget. Via TWI (The Washington Independent):

We're looking to spark a good conversation – on the state budget.

After three years of cutbacks, after cutting K-12 and higher education, after closing state parks and prisons, more and more Coloradans are asking questions about state finances and our fiscal challenges.

We think Coloradans want to talk about the state budget.

Now that this year's legislative session is safely behind us, maybe it's time to talk about the state budget. That, anyway, seems to be the premise behind a video released today by the Bell Policy Center and ProgressNow Colorado.

The six-minute animated video bills itself as a plain-English introduction to Colorado's budget-where the money comes from and where it goes.

The Bell Policy Center and ProgressNow Colorado, liberal organizations fighting three tax-slashing initiatives on the November ballot, have jointly produced a video that, at first glance, looks more like a children's show on PBS than a political message.

The Bell Policy Center brought out a video Friday explaining what the "Bad Three" tax-slashing proposed constitutional amendments would mean for Colorado and urging citizens to vote them down in November. The progressive organization argues that the initiatives – Amendments 60 and 61 and proposition 101 –would effectively impoverish the state and force the elimination of essential services. That assessment is shared by most all of the major candidates for office and by lawmakers on all sides of the political spectrum.
