SLV commissioners urged to oppose ballot measures

ALAMOSA – A Denver think tank urged San Luis Valley county commissioners Monday to take up the fight against a trio of ballot questions it says would decimate state and local budgets.

The Bell Policy Center has focused its sights on Amendments 60 and 61 and Proposition 101 and hopes commissioners will make voters aware of the cuts to services that will come should the measures pass.

"The problem is that's not something some schmuck from Denver can do," said Wade Buchanan, the center's president.

The weather may have been nice, but the state's future financial forecast delivered at a public meeting Saturday looks stormy.

About 40 people attended a town-hall meeting about Colorado's budget crisis, cuts and constraints.
