Semro urges transparency on hospital costs, potential aid
Bob Semro, the Bell's health care policy analyst, submitted testimony Thursday in favor of Senate Bill 134, a proposal regarding hospitals and increased transparency of costs of treatment and availability of financial aid for low-income patients who are uninsured.
The proposed legislation, Senate Bill 134, is sponsored by Sen. Irene Aguilar. After testimony on Thursday, the bill was held over for further discussion and potential amendments.
In his testimony, Semro said the proposal:
- Will provide greater access to care for those Coloradans who may not seek treatment because of concerns over cost.
- Will require clear information about possible financial assistance, making it easier for working people and their families to manage the cost of their hospital care.
- Require new debt-collection standards and limit hospital costs for the low-income uninsured to the cost of the actual care provided.
