Semro to counter attorney general in presentation on individual mandate
Robert Semro, the Bell's health care policy analyst, will explain why the individual mandate in the Affordable Care Act is constitutional in a presentation from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday at the Anschutz Medical Campus (Room P26-1300, Education I building).
The presentation, part of the "Conversation Series" of the Colorado Area Heath Education Center (AHEC), is in response to a talk last month by Attorney General John Suthers. He is one of twenty-six attorneys general who have challenged the law's constitutionality, and the Supreme Court will be hearing arguments in the case next month.
The event is free, and lunch is provided, but participants must register (scroll to bottom of screen).
Semro's presentation will focus on what the individual mandate will do, how it will be enforced and the reasons why this provision is such a critical part of the health care reform law. In addition to discussing why the mandate is constitutional, the presentation will also cover the potential consequences should the law or the individual mandate be ruled unconstitutional.
