Callan is a co-author of the forthcoming book Financing American Higher Education in the Era of Globalization. Callan and his co-authors hope to spark a transformative national debate that leads to "fundamental re-examination of the financing of American higher education."
Callan is president of the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education, which is widely known for its Measuring Up report cards.
Beyond possible new approaches and challenges facing funding of higher education for the 21st century, Callan will talk about post-secondary access, completion and affordability.
Callan's unique background will interest Coloradans. He lives in and has great familiarity with a state with structural budget problems – California – where he was executive director of the California Post-secondary Education Commission. He also has held executive posts in two other western states, with the Washington State Council for Post-secondary Education and the Montana Commission on Post-secondary Education.
